Dorn
Method
WHAT IS THE DORN METHOD?
The Dorn Method is a relatively new form of manual therapy. It is a gentle, effective and safe way to
correct misalignments of the spine and other joints. It is beneficial for: Back and neck pain, headaches
and migraines, joint problems such as hip, knee, shoulder, elbow, jaw, difference in leg length, sciatica,
and many other common health problems. It does not cause stress to muscles and ligaments through manipulation, but makes use of a spinal back massage, specific gentle techniques to move joints back
into place and the promotion of regular self help exercises, which all add up to great maintenance and preventative treatment system.
The Dorn Method is a self help treatment free of unpleasant side effects, completely safe with no
medication being required. It consists of a range of simple exercises and techniques which aim to help
joints and vertebrae slip into their natural positions. Many common problems are often caused by wrongly placed vertebrae and differing leg lengths which come about after years of wear and tear. You may be surprised to find your own leg lengths are slightly different due to incorrect hip joint seating, this is very common. Quite simply this places extra strain on you body's joints and muscles, and over time pain starts
to develop.
This therapy provides help by gently moving the joints back into their natural positions, thereby relieving
pain and placing the body back into its correct balanced state. Very often simply balancing the leg lengths can be sufficient to provide relief from long standing back and other related discomforts. Much emphasis
is therefore placed on the correction of uneven leg length, as it is such a common problem. A range of simple but effective after care exercises are also provided for the client to take away and use at home.
One simple exercise practised for a few minutes each day will keep your hips or back in good shape.
TREATMENT
The treatment begins with checking leg lengths. The pelvis is then checked for misalignment along with the lumbar, thoracic and cervical vertebrae and corrections are made as necessary. All corrections happen in
a dynamic way, that is with the client assisting by either swinging their leg leg, arm or head as joints are gently brought back into their proper positions. Part of the treatment consists of a very gentle back massage which helps to safely stretch, align, energize and relax the spine.
