WHAT IS NEURO-LINGUISTIC PROGRAMMING?
NLP is based on the work of Richard Bandler and John Grinder in the 1970s, who
shared an interest in psychology, psychotherapy, hypnotherapy and linguistics.
They studied and observed the patterns used by excellent or outstanding individuals
who achieved
exceptional results in their field of work.
These observations were described as modelling and were developed as a series
of NLP presuppositions used in
coaching, business and personal change.
Examples of these are:
-
The mind and body affect each other, therefore if you think
negatively you will get negative results and if you think positively
you will get positive results
-
A persons behaviour is not who they are
-
There is no failure, only feedback
-
If what you are doing is not working do something different
-
If we always do what we have always done, we will always
get what we have always got
-
The only person who can change is you
A knowledge of NLP enables us to understand that other peoples
perceptions of what they experience differ from our own. We all
have our own filters which help us to make sense of the world around
us, but they are different from those of others.
Our particular self-imposed filters may mean that we limit what we want to achieve
and if we understand them better we can see more clearly the choices that are
available to us and achieve more of what we want. |
