WHAT IS PILATES AND WHAT CAN IT DO FOR YOU?
Pilates has proven itself for more than 80 years as an effective and safe method
of exercise
when taught and applied correctly.
Joseph Pilates developed Pilates as a result of teaching fitness and exercise
techniques whilst being interned during the war in Germany. His aim was complete
co-ordination of body, mind and spirit.
Today Pilates is practiced by people of all ages and abilities from dancers and
athletes to the general public. It is a highly effective low impact way to stretch,
strengthen
and streamline the body and is often referred to as 'intelligent exercise'.
It focuses on core stability and can help to restore the natural curves of the
spine, relieve
tension and enhance self confidence.
The Benefits of Pilates include:
-
Improved balance, co-ordination, circulation, strength and
flexibility
-
Development of core strength, stability and improved posture
-
Relief of aches and pains and help with back pain
Pilates complements other therapies e.g. massage, physiotherapy
etc. It is a low impact safe form of exercise which improves sports
performance, helps prevent injuries, relieves stress and tension
by helping body-mind balance and improves body awareness, mental
focus and resilience.
